Osteoporosis Scanning
Chiropractic adjustments involve a quick thrust that helps add motion to the spinal joints that aren't moving right. There are many ways to adjust the spine.
Spinal joints that are "locked up," fixated or not moving right can affect your health by "choking or irritating nerves and compromising the function of affected tissues. Chiropractic adjustments add motion to these areas. This helps restore nervous system integrity and can improve the healing process.
Chiropractic Sports Physician
Dr. Hock is currently the chiropractor for the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology Athletic Department. Many athletes regularly receive chiropractic care to optimize their performance.
Athletes strive to be the best and most want to achieve their goal by natural means. Today, chiropractic has become a major part of athletics. It is a common occurence to see chiropractors on the sidelines of sporting events at the college, professional and Olympic levels. Chiropractic can help them achieve their optimal level by allowing their joints and muscles to move freely and work properly.
Fitness Program
Most people seek chiropractic care due to a Neuromusculoskeletal (involving the nerves, muscles, your skeleton or bones and other support structures) condition. Exercise can play an important role during and after your treatment. Once your symptoms have diminished or alleviate, strengthening exercises become important in the management and prevention of further relapse of the condition.
Regardless of the condition for which you are being treated, improving your posture through spinal exercises should be an important part of your fitness regime. Spinal exercises, correctly performed, are some of the best preventative measures one can take to circumvent back disorders. Not only will you enjoy the benefits of a healthier, stronger spine and a better functioning nervous system, you will also look and feel better.
Cardiovascular exercise and proper muscle tone promote a healthier person by reducing stress, decreasing the chance of heart disease and preventing future problems. Please consult Dr. Hock, Dr. Wood or your medical physician before beginning and cardiovascular fitness or any exercise program.
Active Release Technique
ART is a type of manual hands on therapy that corrects muscular and soft tissue problems.
Adhesions cause the motion of the muscle and joints to be altered and the compression of nerves, resulting in a variety of symptoms that characterize the cumulative injury cycle and the reduction of biomechanical performance.
The goal of ART is to
1. Restore free and unimpeded motion of all soft tissues
2. Release entrapped nerves, vasculature and lymphatics
3. Reestablish optimal tissue texture and function of soft tissues
How do Adhesions form?
Compromise of soft tissue occurs two ways. There is the acute injury, a blow, pull or strain of the muscle, tendonor ligament, or the repetitive overuse type such as improper posture, faulty biomechanics, compensation injuries and repeated motions.
The result is either that due to the compression, tissues suffer from decreased blood supply, they feel tight and full, and respond by producing scar tissue to protect them from further damage. This effect of decreased circulation and scar tissue adhesions alters the function of the structures involved and results in pain, poor mobility of the muscle joint or area of function, decreased athletic performance and most importantly, a continuation of the cumulative injury cycle.
